Reinstatement Work

Reinstatement After Utility Works

Every trench dug in a road or pavement has to be put back so it will not sink, crack or break up. We have reinstated footways and carriageways on behalf of Kent County Council and utility companies, backfilling and compacting in layers, then laying base and surface courses to match the construction around the opening.

Our SWQR street works registration shows our operatives hold the street works qualifications needed to excavate and reinstate in the public highway.

About Us

Our Experience with Reinstatement Work

We are a family run groundworks business based in Staplehurst, and we bring over 20 years of experience to every reinstatement work job across Kent, East and West Sussex and south-east London.

The same small, friendly team surveys the job, prepares the ground and finishes the surface, so you deal with the people doing the work from the first visit to the final sweep.

We have worked on behalf of Kent County Council and utility companies, our team is registered with the Street Works Qualifications Register, and we are approved under the Trading Standards Buy With Confidence scheme.

Reinstatement Work

Working to Specification

Reinstatements in England follow the Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in Highways, which sets the materials, layer thicknesses and compaction for each type of road and footway. We work to it, and to any extra requirements in the job, so the reinstatement passes inspection.

The surfaces we reinstate include tarmac, block paving, paving slabs and kerbs, so the finished patch matches what was there before the works.

Safe Working on the Highway

Openings are signed, lit and guarded in line with the street works code of practice, and pedestrian routes are kept open where possible. That keeps the public and our team safe and keeps disruption to the road as short as it can be.

Frequently Asked Questions

Reinstatement Work: Your Questions Answered

Who do you carry out reinstatement work for?

We have worked on behalf of Kent County Council and utility companies, and we can quote for other contractors who need openings reinstated.

What is SWQR?

The Street Works Qualifications Register records operatives and supervisors who hold the qualifications needed to work in the public highway under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991.

Do you reinstate private roads and car parks as well?

Yes. The same layered backfill, compaction and surfacing methods apply on private roads, car parks and yards, matched to the existing surface.

Which surfaces can you reinstate?

Tarmac, block paving, slabs, kerbs and dropped kerbs, so the surface is put back to match what was there before the excavation.

Do you reinstate private driveways after utility work?

Yes. If a driveway or path has been dug up for a new supply or repair, we can reinstate it so the patch matches and sits level with the surface around it.
